Palak (Spinach) Chutney


It is called Palakura pachadi in Telugu. It is a quick, simple, tasty and multipurpose condiment made with spinach and spices.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups chopped spinach
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 10-12 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste or dry tamarind
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds

  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • 2-3 dried red chili

Method:

  • Grind onion, garlic, tamarind, red chili powder and salt to the paste
  • In a pan, add oil and heat it
  • Add urad dal and chana dal
  • Once they start changing the color, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds
  • Let them pop and add dried red chili pieces and curry leaves
  • Then add the onion-garlic paste to the pan

  • Mix well and cook until rawness of onion-garlic goes away and mixture starts thickening
  • Lastly, add chopped spinach, mix well, cover and cook on low flame
  • Once oil starts separating, turn off the stove
  • Serve the chutney with rice, roti or dosa.
