Tomato Peanut Chutney


Tomato peanut chutney is a yummy, creamy chutney goes well with idli and dosa. It is usually made as flowy consistency.  

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup raw peanuts
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ½ cup cubed tomato (2 medium sided tomatoes)
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 tbsp chana dal
  • 1 tbsp urad dal
  • 2-3 dried red chili
  • Tamarind
  • 1 tsp jaggery
  • Salt
  • Oil

  • For tempering: oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves (optional)

Method:

  • In a pan, add oil and fry peanuts until changes color
  • Add urad and chana dal and roast until they become darker
  • Then add garlic cloves and ginger and continue roasting the mixture
  • Add chopped onions and dry chilies
  • Then add tamarind to the mixture
  • Once onion turns golden, add chopped tomatoes
  • Cook the mixture until tomato softens
  • Cool down the mixture

  • Grind the mixture to smooth paste by adding jaggery, salt and ½ cup water
  • Transfer the paste to a pot, adjust the consistency by adding water
  • Add tempering to it: in a small pan, heat oil and add mustard and cumin seeds to oil, let them pop and add this tempering to chutney
  • Mix well and enjoy.
