Ugadi Pachadi


Ugadi is a day celebrated to mark the beginning of new year in some states of India. Pachadi is prepared on Ugadi day. It is a mixture that has six different tastes (sweet, sour, salt, pungent, spice and bitter) which symbolizes happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, fear and surprise.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • ¼ cup green mango pieces
  • 3 tbsp jaggery
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper powder
  • 1 pinch red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp neem flowers (I did not have it)
  • Tamarind paste

Method:

  • Wash, peel mango and cut into small pieces
  • Mix all the ingredients
  • Add mango pieces and serve!
