Methi Paneer Masala


Methi is Fenugreek and paneer is Indian cottage cheese. Paneer can be made at home, but it is easily available in Indian stores. Methi paneer masala is a delicious and healthy dish made with fenugreek leaves, paneer, onion, tomatoes, and spices.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chopped methi leaves
  • 1 cup paneer cubes
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 1-inch ginger or 1 tsp ginger paste
  • ¼ cup cashews
  • ½ cup chopped cilantro
  • Oil

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 cup Indian curd (plain yogurt)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • ½-inch cinnamon
  • 4-5 cloves
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt

Method:

  • Marination– Take chopped methi leaves and paneer cubes in a pot.
  • Add curd, salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder
  • Mix well and marinate it for 15 minutes

Gravy:

  • Take a pot, add 1 tsp oil, and heat it
  • Add onion pieces and saute until they turn golden
  • Add garlic and tomatoes and cook for 1-2 minutes
  • Add ginger pieces or paste and cashews
  • Cook all the mixture well until tomato pieces become soft
  • Turn off the stove and cool the mixture down
  • Grind it to smooth paste
  • Add water if needed

Making curry:

  • Take a pot, add oil, and heat it
  • Add cumin seeds and wait until the color changes
  • Add bay leaves, cinnamon, and cloves and fry them
  • Then add the onion-tomato paste
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes
  • You can add more chili powder and salt if needed
  • Lastly, add the marinated paneer-methi-curd mixture to it
  • Mix well, cover with a lid and cook on low flame until oil starts separating
  • You can add water at any step to get the desired consistency
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with roti or rice.
