Methi is Fenugreek and paneer is Indian cottage cheese. Paneer can be made at home, but it is easily available in Indian stores. Methi paneer masala is a delicious and healthy dish made with fenugreek leaves, paneer, onion, tomatoes, and spices.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup chopped methi leaves
- 1 cup paneer cubes
- 1 medium-sized onion
- 2 tomatoes
- 4-5 garlic cloves
- 1-inch ginger or 1 tsp ginger paste
- ¼ cup cashews
- ½ cup chopped cilantro
- Oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 cup Indian curd (plain yogurt)
- 2 bay leaves
- ½-inch cinnamon
- 4-5 cloves
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt
Method:
- Marination– Take chopped methi leaves and paneer cubes in a pot.
- Add curd, salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder
- Mix well and marinate it for 15 minutes
Gravy:
- Take a pot, add 1 tsp oil, and heat it
- Add onion pieces and saute until they turn golden
- Add garlic and tomatoes and cook for 1-2 minutes
- Add ginger pieces or paste and cashews
- Cook all the mixture well until tomato pieces become soft
- Turn off the stove and cool the mixture down
- Grind it to smooth paste
- Add water if needed
Making curry:
- Take a pot, add oil, and heat it
- Add cumin seeds and wait until the color changes
- Add bay leaves, cinnamon, and cloves and fry them
- Then add the onion-tomato paste
- Cook for 2-3 minutes
- You can add more chili powder and salt if needed
- Lastly, add the marinated paneer-methi-curd mixture to it
- Mix well, cover with a lid and cook on low flame until oil starts separating
- You can add water at any step to get the desired consistency
- Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with roti or rice.
