Green Chili Chutney

This is a very spicy side dish made with green chili paste cooked in plain yogurt (curd/dahi). This chutney is known as Santalya mirchya in Marathi.

Ingredients:

  • 10 green chilies
  • ½ cup yogurt
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbs roasted sesame or roasted peanut powder
  • 1 tsp oil

Method:

  • Grind the chilies to a coarse paste
  • Chop cilantro
  • Take a pan, add oil, and heat it
  • Once the oil is hot, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them crackle
  • Add curry leaves and then green chili paste
  • Let the green chili paste cook until it changes color
  • Add turmeric powder and curd
  • Cook it until oil starts separating
  • Add sesame or peanut powder, salt and cilantro
  • Mix well. Let the whole mixture cook for 1-2 minutes and then turn off the stove
  • Curd gives a very nice taste and texture to it; sesame or peanut powder is used to minimize the spiciness of chilies. This chutney can be used as a side dish.
