This is a very spicy side dish made with green chili paste cooked in plain yogurt (curd/dahi). This chutney is known as Santalya mirchya in Marathi.
Ingredients:
- 10 green chilies
- ½ cup yogurt
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- 5-6 curry leaves
- ¼ cup chopped cilantro
- 1 tbs roasted sesame or roasted peanut powder
- 1 tsp oil
Method:
- Grind the chilies to a coarse paste
- Chop cilantro
- Take a pan, add oil, and heat it
- Once the oil is hot, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them crackle
- Add curry leaves and then green chili paste
- Let the green chili paste cook until it changes color
- Add turmeric powder and curd
- Cook it until oil starts separating
- Add sesame or peanut powder, salt and cilantro
- Mix well. Let the whole mixture cook for 1-2 minutes and then turn off the stove
- Curd gives a very nice taste and texture to it; sesame or peanut powder is used to minimize the spiciness of chilies. This chutney can be used as a side dish.
