Ridge Gourd + Daal Curry


Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Ridge gourd pieces
  • 1 cup Moong dal
  • 4-5 Garlic cloves
  • 1 fistful curry leaves
  • 2 tbs oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt
  • Jaggery (optional)

Method:

  • Wash, peel the ridge gourd
  • Cut it into cubes
  • Cut garlic cloves into small pieces
  • Take a pan, add oil and heat it

  • Add mustard and cumin seeds and let them crackle
  • Add garlic pieces and then curry leaves
  • Once garlic pieces start changing color, add ridge gourd pieces as well as moong dal
  • Mix well
  • Add turmeric powder and cover it with lid
  • Once water starts depositing on under surface of lid, add water
  • Mix well and cook the mixture while stirring intermittently
  • Once gourd pieces turn soft and daal cooks well, add red chili powder, salt and jaggery
  • Cook it for another 1-2 minutes and turn off the stove
