Methi (Fenugreek) Rice


Methi flavored rice dish is also known as methi pulao. It is a one-dish meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice, soaked for 15 in and drained
  • 1/12 cup finely chopped fresh methi leaves
  • 1 tsp finely chopped garlic
  • ½ medium onion- thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1 tsp oil
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 2-3 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp red chili powder or green chili paste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp lemon juice (optional)
  • ½ cup chopped cilantro

Method:

  • Take a pan.
  • Add butter and oil to it and heat.
  • Add bay leaves and cumin seeds.
  • Add garlic and saute for a minute.
  • Add chopped onions and cook until it turns golden
  • Add green chili paste or red chili powder
  • Add methi leaves, mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add drained basmati rice, mix well and cover the lid. Let it cook on steam for 2-3 minutes.
  • Open the lid. Add salt, lemon juice (optional)
  • Add 2 cups of water and cook until rice cooks well. You can use a pressure cooker or stovetop or instant pot.
  • Serve hot after garnishing with chopped cilantro.
