White Radish (Mooli) Koshimbir


White radish is also known as Japanese radish, Chinese radish, or daikon radish. White radish (Mooli or Mula or Mullangi) has many nutrients like vitamin C, folic acid, calcium, and potassium. It is beneficial for heart, kidney, and joint health.

This is the easy recipe for raw white radish. If yogurt (curd) is added, it is called raita. This koshimbir is without curd. You can make a similar koshimbir with grated carrots or beet.

Ingredients:

  • 2 white radishes
  • 3-4 dried red chili pieces
  • 1 tbs Chana dal
  • 1 tbs Urad dal
  • ¼ cup raw peanuts
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp Hing

  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbs oil
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • 1 cup chopped cilantro

Method:

  • Wash, peel, and grate radishes
  • Add salt to it, mix well and keep it for 15 minutes
  • After 15 minutes, squeeze out water from grated radishes and keep it aside

  • Take a small pan for tempering and add oil to it
  • Once the oil is hot, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and let them crackle
  • Add hing powder
  • Then add peanuts, chana dal, urad dal and roast them until they change color to light brown
  • Then add dried red chili pieces and curry leaves

  • Transfer this tempering to grated radish and mix well
  • Add chopped cilantro
  • Adjust the salt and enjoy!
