Spanakopita is a delicious Greek recipe made of crispy layers of phyllo dough and rich spinach and feta cheese filling. This dish can be made either in the form of pie, or triangles or rolls. We made rolls and triangles.
Ingredients:
- ½ stick butter
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 3-4 garlic (minced)
- ½ cup chopped onion
- ½ cup chopped spinach
- 2 eggs (optional)
- ½ cup feta cheese
- Phyllo dough sheets
- Salt
- ½ tsp pepper powder
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning or dill powder (optional)
Method:
- Heat olive oil in a pan
- Add onions and minced garlic to it
- Mix and saute until onions softened
- Add spinach, mix well and cook until most of the moisture has been absorbed
- Turn off the stove
- Add salt, pepper powder, seasoning, eggs and feta cheese to pan
- Mix well and keep it aside
- Melt the butter
- Lay phyllo dough flat and brush with butter
- Place a small amount of filling onto each piece of dough
- Fold phyllo into triangles or rolls as shown in videos
- Place filled triangles and rolls in a baking tray
- Preheat oven on 350 F
- Place the tray in the oven and bake it for 40 minutes until golden brown
