Palak Poori


Palak (Spinach) Poori is a whole wheat fried bread made with spices, chickpea flour. Adding the spinach makes the poori very yummy and healthy.

Ingredients:

  • 250 gm Spinach
  • 2 cups whole wheat or multigrain flour
  • ¼ cup chickpea flour
  • 1-inch ginger
  • 3 green chilies
  • Salt
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • ¼ tsp Hing (optional)
  • 1 tsp dried mango powder (optional)

  • Oil for frying
  • 1 tbs Carrom seeds
  • 1 tbs Cumin seeds
  • 1 tbs sesame seeds

Method:

  • Wash, and drain spinach
  • Some people boil spinach in water and then make paste
  • I use raw spinach to make a paste
  • While making paste, add green chilies, ginger and some water

  • In a bowl, take wheat flour, and chickpea flour
  • Add all other ingredients except sesame seeds
  • Mix well
  • Add spinach paste and make dough
  • Dough should not be very soft
  • Cover it and keep it for 10 minutes
  • Break the dough into pieces
  • Take one ball of dough, place it on the surface to roll
  • By sprinkling some flour, roll it evenly with a rolling pin
  • Sprinkle some sesame seeds over it and press it with a rolling pin
  • Take a small bowl to cut the bread into small circles
  • Heat oil in a pan

  • Deep fry those pooris until they change color to light brown
  • Take the pooris out and place them on paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
  • Let them cool before storing into an air-tight container
