Palak (Spinach) Poori is a whole wheat fried bread made with spices, chickpea flour. Adding the spinach makes the poori very yummy and healthy.
Ingredients:
- 250 gm Spinach
- 2 cups whole wheat or multigrain flour
- ¼ cup chickpea flour
- 1-inch ginger
- 3 green chilies
- Salt
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- ¼ tsp Hing (optional)
- 1 tsp dried mango powder (optional)
- Oil for frying
- 1 tbs Carrom seeds
- 1 tbs Cumin seeds
- 1 tbs sesame seeds
Method:
- Wash, and drain spinach
- Some people boil spinach in water and then make paste
- I use raw spinach to make a paste
- While making paste, add green chilies, ginger and some water
- In a bowl, take wheat flour, and chickpea flour
- Add all other ingredients except sesame seeds
- Mix well
- Add spinach paste and make dough
- Dough should not be very soft
- Cover it and keep it for 10 minutes
- Break the dough into pieces
- Take one ball of dough, place it on the surface to roll
- By sprinkling some flour, roll it evenly with a rolling pin
- Sprinkle some sesame seeds over it and press it with a rolling pin
- Take a small bowl to cut the bread into small circles
- Heat oil in a pan
- Deep fry those pooris until they change color to light brown
- Take the pooris out and place them on paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
- Let them cool before storing into an air-tight container
