Mirchi ka salan is a spicy dish with green chilies. Salan is a variable term for curry.
Ingredients:
- 6-8 big green chilies- slit vertically
- 2 tbs peanuts
- 2 tbs sesame seeds
- 2 tbs dry coconut slices/pieces (you can use grated frozen coconut instead)
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1-inch ginger
- 6-8 curry leaves
- 1 tbs oil
- 1 medium onion- chopped
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tbs tamarind paste (you can soak dry tamarind in water for 15 minutes and make a paste or use store-bought tamarind paste)
- ½ cup chopped cilantro for garnishing
Method:
- Dry roast peanuts, sesame seeds, dried coconut on low flame separately and let them cool
- Grind peanuts, sesame seeds, coconut, ginger, garlic together by adding some water
- Take a pan. Add oil and heat it.
- Add slit green chilies and fry them until blisters appear on them. Keep them aside.
- Use the same pan and leftover oil.
- Add mustard seeds and then cumin seeds and let them crackle.
- Add curry leaves and onion and cook well.
- Add red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt and mix well.
- Add peanut-sesame-coconut paste and mix well.
- Add tamarind paste to it and mix well.
- Add water for desired consistency. Then add fried green chilies.
- Cook until oil separates.
- Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with biryani or any rice dish.
