Mirchi Bhajji or Chili Bhajji are spiced, tangy and fried stuffed green chilies. This is the popular street dish from India.
Ingredients:
- 9-10 mildly hot green chilies
For batter:

- 1.4 tsp ajwain/carrom seeds
- Pinch of baking soda
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- Red chili powder if chilies are less hot
- Salt
- Oil for frying
For stuffing:
- 2 tbsp tamarind pulp
- 2 tbsp roasted peanut powder
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- Salt
Method:
- Wash and dry chilies
- Slit the chilies at the center
- Chili seeds give hotness to chili
- You can remove seeds if chilies are very hot
- I used very mild chilies, so did not remove seeds
- Mix tamarind paste, peanut powder, salt, and cumin seeds
- Stuff the chilies with this tamarind paste mix and keep them aside
- In a pot, take besan, rice flour, carrom seeds, salt, baking soda, turmeric and red chili powder
- Mix well and make thick batter by adding water
- Add oil to a frying pan and heat it
- Once oil is hot, take spoonful of oil and add it to the batter and mix well
- Now, dip the stuffed green chili one by one in the batter and coat them completely
- Drop them one by one to hot oil
- Deep fry in oil
- Keeping the flame on medium, flip over and fry all the sides
- Fry until bhajjis turn crisp and golden brown
- Enjoy Mirchi bhajji!
