It is a spiced jowar flour recipe, usually served for breakfast. Jowar flour is gluten free. It is good for people with diabetes as it has low glycemic index.
Ingredients:
- 3 Cups Jowar Flour
- 2 cups chopped Onions
- 2-3 dried red Chilies
- 2 tbs Chana dal
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- Salt to taste
- 5 teaspoons Oil
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
Method:
- Heat oil in a pan and add jowar flour (it needs more oil as flour is dry compared to other flours)
- Mix well and roast it until it changes color
- Transfer it to a bowl and keep aside
- In the same pan, add 1 tsp oil and heat it
- Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
- Add chana dal and dried red chilies and roast them for 1 minute.
- Add chopped onions and cook until they become translucent.
- Boil 3 cups of and add it to the pan
- Now add salt, flour to it and mix well with the ingredients.
- Keep stirring to avoid the lump formation.
- Lastly, add lemon juice to the mix.
- Cover it with the lid to cook on steam.
- Mix it intermittently until it is done.
- Once done turn off the heat and transfer upma to the serving bowl.
