Jeera Rice


Very easy but delicious basmati rice dish, served along with dal-fry. Jeera means cumin seeds. This dish does not have any vegetables but only whole spices.

Ingredients:

  • Basmati rice 2 cups
  • Cashews 12-15 fried
  • Salt
  • Butter 2 tbs
  • 3-4 bay leaves
  • 1-inch cinnamon
  • 3-4 cloves
  • 3 black cardamoms
  • 4-5 small cardamoms
  • 4-5 peppercorns
  • ½ tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
  • 1-2-star anise

Method

  • Wash and soak basmati rice for 30 minutes-1 hour. Drain and keep aside.
  • Heat butter and fry cashews and put them aside.
  • In the same butter add all the whole spices mentioned above. Saute them.
  • Take drained rice, add 4 cups water, salt, and sautéed whole spices to it.

  • Cook rice like you cook always (pressure cooker, rice cooker, instant pot, or on the stove).
  • Garnish jeera rice with fried cashew.
  • Serve it with dal fry.
