Flaxseeds Chutney Powder


Flaxseed is one of the world’s oldest crops. There are two types, brown and golden, both of which are equally nutritious. It is known by several names such as Javas in Marathi, Alsi in Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tishi in Bengali, Agasi in Kannada, Aviselu in Telugu, Ali vidai in Tamil and Cheruchana vithu in Malayalam. Flaxseed is a good source of many nutrients, including protein, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, thiamine, and copper. It helps with lowering cholesterol, and diabetes, and it may help fight cancer.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Flax seeds
  • 4-5 Dried red chilies
  • Marble sized tamarind
  • 2 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Salt
  • Jaggery
  • 8-10 garlic cloves

Method:

  • Take a pan and heat it.
  • Roast flax seeds on low flame until it changes color to dark brown (as shown in the pic).

  • Roast the rest of the ingredients except jaggery. While roasting, you can add a few drops of oil.
  • Let them cool down.

  • Add all the roasted ingredients, jaggery, and salt, and blend it to a slightly coarse powder in a blender.
  • Store in an air-tight container.
  • It is generally served with South Indian breakfast dishes like Idli, dosa, or even hot steamed rice with some ghee.
