This curry is made with fenugreek seeds and toor dal. Jaggery is used to contrast the bitter taste of fenugreek seeds. It is popularly known in my family as sweet curry.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Toor dal
- 1 tbs Fenugreek seeds
- 7-8 garlic cloves
- Jaggery as per your taste
- Salt
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- Red chili powder
- Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
Method:
- Cut garlic cloves into pieces
- Wash and drain Toor dal
- Take a pot, add oil and heat it
- Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and let them crackle
- Add Fenugreek seeds and garlic pieces and fry them until seeds change color to brown
- Add turmeric powder and water
- Once water starts boiling, add washed toor dal
- Keep stirring intermittently and add more water until dal cooks well (not too mushy)
- Lastly add jaggery, red chili powder and salt, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes
- Turn off the stove and serve hot with roti or rice
