Raita is known as Koshimbir in Marathi. It is an Indian yogurt (curd) dip served with biryani. Boondi raita is one of the easiest to make. Boondi is tiny crunchy fried snack balls made with gram/chick-pea flour. You can buy it in any Indian grocery store.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- ½ cup boondi
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- ¼ teaspoon cumin powder
- ½ tsp pepper powder (optional)
- salt
- ¼ tsp red chili powder
- ½ tsp Chaat masala (it is a spice powder that adds a unique flavor to boondi raita). It is easily available in Indian stores.
Method:
- Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl. Season to taste with salt.
- Boondi can be used in 2 ways: for the softer version, rest boondi in warm water for a few minutes, drain and then add it to curd. For a crunchier version, add it to curd without soaking it in water.
- Lastly, garnish it with chopped cilantro.
